I am leaving soon for “Dinner in Abraham’s Tent: Conversations on Peace.”  I am very excited about this event where I will be dining with people of different faiths and attending 3 separate worship services: a Jewish Shabbat service, an Episcopal Evening Prayer Service and a Muslim Evening Prayer service. I find this very exciting to see the different religious traditions open themselves to each other for exciting conversations regarding peace.
This is encouraging in a world where peace seems to have become what once was, but can no longer be.  I love Ecclesiastes 3:1-8:
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
“A time for peace,” beautiful thing.  I pray for you in your own conversations, pray for you in your own community, own school, own workplace and in our country that you may find the peace of Christ.  I challenge you today to meditate on this Ecclesiastes passage and discover what you find in it yourself.
